  1. Interesting Facts: 14 November – 18 November Anti Bullying Week Anti Bullying Week is an annual event organised by “respect me” Scotland’s Anti-Bullying Service. The week aims to raise awareness of bullying in and out of school, and highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. ThinkUKnow is another service which offers good advice on internet and online safety. It is part of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP). 14 November Supermoon This is a result of the moon coming closer to Earth than it has done for 69 years – at 11.23am the gap between the Earth and the Moon will be at it’s shortest point, known as perigee – a distance of 221, 525 miles or 356,510 km. If the sky is clear over Orkney we should be able to see the full moon in all it’s glory just before 5pm when it will appear about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than usual.

  2. Interesting Facts: 14 November World Diabetes Day Adam kindly informed us that today is World Diabetes Day. It is celebrated on Canadian Sir Frederick Banting’s birthday. He along with scientist Charles Best discovered insulin, a life saving treatment for Diabetes.

  6. This Friday, 18th November people across the UK will work together to raise money for Children in Need. At Papdale, our Primary 7 classrooms will be transformed into a range of exciting stalls for everyone to come and visit. We will have a baking stall, face painting, target shooting, treasure island, a bottle stall and many more! This year the theme for Children in Need is “Spotacular” so on Friday everyonecan wear their spots to school!

  7. This week, Primary 7 pupils will visit your classrooms to sell the Pudsey colouring in competition. There are 3 different pictures; 1 for P1-3, 1 for P4/5, and 1 for P6/7. The closing date for entries is Friday 25th November. The cost per sheet is 20p. So head to reception where every break time this week, Primary 7 will be selling Pudsey wristbands, spotty lanyards and Pudsey headbands. They will also be selling numbers for our raffle at 10p per number. The wristbands, spotty lanyards and headbands cost £1 and lines for the raffle are 10p each. We hope that this week everyone in Papdale can dig deep to help us raise as much money as we can for young people all over the UK.

  8. Harvest Service The Orkney Foodbank would like to thank everyone at Papdale for our donation from our recent Harvest Service. The total amount of food donated was an incredible 215.9kgs and helped the Foodbank fill their shelves after a busy month or two! Since the Foodbank started in late 2013, they’ve been asked to provide food parcels to 1,676 people, 523 of these being children. Each person gets between 9kgs and 12kgs each, so we have managed to feed around 21 people! Good job Papdale!!

  9. Well done Well done to Emily for helping the PDSA by doing a Firework Survey. Emily has been a part of the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals for a few years now, and is still a keen volunteer. She had to ask 10 people, “Do you think fireworks should be banned?” Her results show that 1 person said they should be banned, however 9 think they shouldn’t be banned as they’re a nice way to celebrate, however there could be more awareness and help on how to keep pets safe. Great work Emily!

  10. Well done Well done to Ana, Beth and Leah who all received certificates for swimming. Beth has passed Level 1, Ana has passed Level 3 and Leah got her underwater certificate. Good job girls!

  11. Well done Well done to Finn and his dog, Pip, for winning a rosette at the Dog Show. Finn said he had to guide Pip through lots of tunnels and to jump through hoops! Good job, Finn.

  12. Well done Well done to Ailsa and Erica as they competed in a Highland Dancing competition in Thurso on Saturday. The girls both did 7 dances! There were 10 dancers from Orkney, taking home a total of 40 medals.
