  1. ACUTE ILLNESS: DEFINITION, ISSUE, AND SYMPTOMS

  2. WHAT IS ACUTE ILLNESS? The term “acute” describes an injury or illness that manifests suddenly. Acute illness is characterised by a sudden and rapid onset of an abnormal body condition. Acute illness is also known as the sudden onset of a disease over a brief period that requires immediate medical attention to recover from. Acute illness can sometimes be brought on by viruses, infections, trauma from a fall or accident, drug abuse, or other factors. If untreated acute illnesses last long without improvement, they can develop into chronic conditions. Acute illness may be treated naturally or may require medication. For instance, the typical cold resolves by itself. Acute diseases like organ failure, strep throat, heart attacks, and asthma can occur suddenly with severe, life-threatening symptoms. Acute illnesses may also have different effects on various individuals. An infant, an older person, or someone with a weakened immune system may experience much more severe acute illnesses than a healthy person can handle.

  3. WHAT ACUTE ILLNESSES ARE MOST PREVALENT? The most prevalent acute illnesses are those that the majority of people occasionally experience, including: colds flu, eye ailments, infected ears, infections of the urinary tract (UTIs), throat infection, diarrhea and gagging, and dehydration. Rest, a lot of fluids, and over-the-counter medications can help you feel better within a few days if a viral illness like the flu or a cold is only causing mild symptoms and you have no other health issues. A minor condition can occasionally worsen into a more serious one. For instance, an untreated UTI can cause pyelonephritis (kidney infection) by spreading back up the urinary system into the kidneys.

  4. WHAT SYMPTOMS ARE CAUSED BY ACUTE ILLNESSES? Numerous acute illnesses of various types exhibit a wide variety of symptoms. However, there are some severe symptoms that you should never ignore, such as: weakness in arms and legs, chest pain, urine with blood in it, difficulty in breathing, unconsciousness etc. Even though there is a chance that these symptoms won’t always be a severe issue, you shouldn’t take any risks.
