  1. BAD EFFECTS of Infographic designed and brought to you by POOR POSTURE ON THE BODY AND THE MIND www.yourbodyposture.com PROMOTES DEPRESSION On a recent study conducted by San Francisco State University, 110 students were asked to walk the hallway in a slouched position and back in skipping motion. They found out that walking in slouched position decreases energy levels while skipping increases their energy. INCREASED CHANCE OF TENSION HEADACHES Tension headaches are pain caused by pressure that can be felt around your forehead or the back of your head and your neck. Slouching for long periods tenses the suboccipital muscles located at the base of the skull connecting the shoulder and back muscles. RECOMMENDATION This study concludes bad posture contributes to mental health issues and would be worth a try. RECOMMENDATION If you catch yourself leaning closer to the screen, it may be time for an eye exam. Also consider raising your screen or your workstation to prevent yourself from slouching. SHOULDER & NECK PAIN Shoulder and neck pain is mostly contributed to by poor subconscious movement habits. Whether you are sitting or standing, having a hunched back slowly deteriorates muscles and joints until you start to feel the pain over the shoulder and neck areas. RECOMMENDATION Re-develop bad habits by engaging the necessary muscles. A shoulder brace would be very helpful to make corrections whenever necessary. CAUSES BACK PAIN Thoracic Kyphosis Back pain can be the result of several different causes. Most significant is having bad posture. Having bad posture causes imbalance in the muscles and eventually deteriorates the spine. RECOMMENDATION • Stretching the lower back, hip-flexors and hamstring muscles. • Strengthening the abdominal muscles and hip extensors on the back of the thighs. Chiropractic (spinal) adjustments to reduce pain and restore motion. • Posture and support braces (consult your doctor for severe cases). 20º 45º RESTRICTS PROPER BREATHING Lumbar Lordosis We use our diaphragm as the primary muscle to inhale. This is located just below our lungs to create space in the chest for our lungs to expand. Having a rounded shoulder restricts chest expansion. Improper breathing and lack of oxygen reduces blood flow throughout the body. RECOMMENDATION Enforce proper breathing while sitting, standing and walking properly. CAUSES DIGESTIVE ISSUES Slouching doesn’t just constrict breathing, it also have adverse effects on other organs as well. Having develop a bad habit of a bent posture causes compression on the digestive organs and in turn slows down the digestive process leading to issues. RECOMMENDATION Exercise sitting and standing with a good posture to engage your core muscles to keep yourself upright all the time.
