  1. Demographics of College Station ISD • District is in one city • 11,600 students • 1,500 teachers and staff

  2. CSISD Education Foundation’s Employee Giving Program 3-year history

  3. Texas House Bill 20.011 • Passed in 2012 and states: A school district board of trustee or employee may not directly or indirectly require or coerce any school district employee to: 1. Make a contribution to a charitable organization or in response to a fund-raiser 2. Attend a meeting called for the purpose of soliciting charitable contributions

  4. Make yourself a Timeline • Time to develop materials • When to make presentations - i.e. week before school starts • How long you plan on running campaign - we have historically done a month

  5. Marketing Your Program • Pick a theme for your promotion i.e. Jump on the Bus, Go for the Gold, 15th Birthday

  6. Make Giving Easy • Offer payroll deduction – check with business office to see what they need • use disclaimer that it will continue unless they notify the business office • Offer online enrollment of payroll deduction or a one-time donation

  7. Creating Incentives • Offer an incentive to turn in your form TODAY - i.e. an additional raffle chance • Have a Raffle – one chance for each $1 pledged • Select prizes that are broad appealing - i.e. iPad or flat screen TV • Select items that don’t cost you anything - i.e. wearing jeans or tickets to event • Award participation but be careful on 100% participation prizes

  8. Presentations • Involve Board Members in “the ask” pairing them up with schools that they have relationships • Make sure you give the disclaimer that “this is a volunteer meeting” • Explain how the Foundation has made a difference for the district • Focus on participation rather than dollars donated • Make the ask – close the deal

  9. Thank and Publicize! • Send thank you notes to donors – have board members sign them. • Hold a breakfast/lunch for the top campus or department who has the highest participation • List donors on your website and link it to Facebook • Take pictures when presenting prizes and post on Facebook and website.

  10. Remind them throughout the year of their investment! Teresa Benden Director, CSISD Education Foundation tbenden@csisd.org givetokids.csisd.org 979-764-5400
