Windows 7 system requirements • If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, system requirement for 32bit system is • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM • 16 GB available or Free hard disk space • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver –( Windows Display Driver Model ) • Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor

Start Menu • The Start menu is divided into two columns left and right, allow you to open/start a program, open a document, change a Windows setting, find a file, display support information, and so on. • The left column of the Start menu is separated into two lists: pinned items above the separator line and most frequently used items below. • The pinned items remain on the Start menu while the most frequently used items change as you use programs. Windows 7 keeps track of which programs you use and displays them on the Start menu for easy access. • The right column of the Start menu provides easy access to folders, games, control panel, devices and printers, help, and shut down functionality. The top right side of the Start menu indicates who is currently using the computer (displayed the name).

  5. Start Menu… • The bottom of the start menu contain instant search box, which allows you to search the Start menu to find programs and other Windows items, such as Internet favorites, history, files, contacts, e-mail messages, and so on.

  6. Personalizing your computer Chap4 You can add a personal touch to your computer by changing the computer's theme, color, sounds, desktop background, screen saver, font size, and user account picture. You can also select specific gadgets for your desktop.

  7. Themes • A theme includes a desktop background, a screen saver, a window border color, sounds, and sometimes icons and mouse pointers. You can choose from several Aero themes. Use the whole theme or create your own customized theme by changing the pictures, colors, and sounds individually.

  9. Aero • Aero is the premium visual experience of this version of Windows. It features a transparent glass design with subtle window animations, a new Start menu, a new taskbar, and new window border colors.

  11. Sounds • You can change the sounds your computer makes when, for example, you receive an e‑mail message, start Windows, or shut down the computer.

  13. Screen saver • A screen saver is a picture or animation that appears on the screen when you haven't used the mouse or keyboard for a set period of time. You can choose from a variety of Windows screen savers.

  14. Font size • You can make the text, icons, and other items on your screen larger by increasing the dots per inch (DPI) scale. You can also decrease the DPI scale to make text and other items on your screen smaller, to fit more on the screen.

  15. User account picture • A user account picture helps identify your account on a computer. The picture is displayed on the Welcome screen and on the Start menu. You can change your user account picture to one of the pictures included with Windows, or you can use your own.

  16. Desktop gadgets • Desktop gadgets are customizable mini-programs that can display information, such as continuously updated headlines or a picture slide show, without having to open a new window.
