Education Provide, support and/or facilitate access to services and resources that contribute to improved educational outcomes for economically disadvantaged people, especially children. 1) Engage in activities intended to improve learning and success in low-achieving K-12 schools, and increase the desire of youth to graduate. 2) Engage in high quality service and service-learning projects in low-achieving K-12 schools 3) Engage in counseling, academic, enrollment, and retention support activities for economically disadvantaged students

Like an Employee: Works in collaboration with staff & community members Included in staff meetings and other events Receives regular feedback on performance Workday as defined by host site Unlike an Employee, a VISTA: Limited in activities by VISTA Terms & Conditions Is not “hired or fired” “Works for” multiple stakeholders: community, CNCS, host site Does not receive traditional compensation More focus on professional & leadership development Timesheets come to the VISTA Leaders
