  2. What is paraphrasing? • It is a restatement of a text in another form or other words, often to simplify or clarify meaning. • Paraphrasing is important in essay writing. You need to have factual, researched information to write a good essay but you can’t just steal another person’s writing. Copying sentences is wrong. • You must paraphrase. PARAPHRASING

  3. Here is an example of CLARIFYING MEANING. ORIGINAL: Little Miss Muffet, Sat on her tuffet, Eating her curds and whey. Along came a spider Who sat down beside her And frighten Miss Muffet away. PARAPHRASED: A girl named Miss Muffet was sitting eating cottage cheese on her special chair. Suddenly she saw a spider! She was scared and ran away. PARAPHRASING

  4. Here is an example of SIMPLIFYING MEANING. ORIGINAL: Diarrhea is one of the main water-borne diseases considered to be endemic in many regions of the world and brings the major health threats to the world populations, both in tropical and subtropical poor countries. The state Meghalaya situated in the North-Eastern India is an upland landmass bound by seven districts surrounded within by different tribes. The population is predominantly rural, with 81.41% of the population belongs merely to the scheduled tribes. The state offers a wide range of disease environments, dominated by communicable diseases (35.68%), and diarrhea is one of the water-borne diseases that alter the society of the state. Various factors like poor environmental sanitation, unavailability of safe drinking water, seasonal rainfall, infected foods, infection through fomites, flies, cockroaches, etc. are the main culprit that led to the cause of diarrhea in the state. The local people are very much closely associated with nature, and with their ethnobiological knowledge about the plants available around them, they can easily avert and cure themselves from several disease complications. In this review, the information regarding the traditional method of utilization of 58 plant species that are used to treat and cure diarrhea and dysentery are enlisted briefly. PARAPHRASED: Diarrhea is a terrible health problem all over the world. Especially in Northern India, a number of poor environmental conditions cause many cases of diarrhea.   7. Change the structure of the text by varying the opening, changing the order of sentences, lengthening or shortening sentences, etc. Use a variety of sentence structures.   8. Replace keywords within the sentences with synonyms or phrases with similar meanings. Be careful not to change technical words which are necessary for the meaning of the information.
