  2. Outliers from SC7 • Services Management • Agile Methods • Systems Integration • Methods for Very Small Enterprises (VSE) S2ESC Excom Mtg 2010-02-09

  3. Study Group on Agile • Study Group report issued: “Agile does not conflict with 12207 model; • Discussions on the report held in WG7, others • Study Group to continue • Jim Moore IEEE Liaison on this SG • General agreement on using IEEE P1648 as a basis for further standards work in this area. • NWIP ballot coming for a new standard titled ”User documentation in an Agile environment”.

  4. IT Standards in SC7- EXPLOSION!! • Standards coming or contemplated at all levels of the IT stack • SOA (Study Group) • IT Services Management (20000-x, 15504-8) • IT Governance • IT Audit, IT Operations, Digital Forensics, Cloud Computing, IS Governance of Service Providers, EA • Ad Hoc Group studying mapping of COBIT, ITIL, other ITSM Stds to SC7 standards • Study group on IT Enabled Services (ITES).

  5. Quality and Consistency • SEVocab and ISO 24765 – periodic updates reviews definitions, new usage • Each Standard should be readable as a standalone (normative refs “essential” for reading/applying, however); • Leads to localized terminology; • MB overseer of WG writing / revising a std • WG Chair ensures that WG members have all needed stds • MB rep mentors the WG Chair, ensures quality and consistency S2ESC Excom Mtg 2010-02-09

  6. Quality and Consistency - 2 • But are we doing a good enough job? • Possible tactics and strategies • More training orientation for WG members • Easy access to related standards from initial time of drafting • Run vocab consistency check scripts at draft submission (cross ref w 24765, others) • Assign explicit “consistency” responsibility as part of WG mandate (define scope early) • MB forms a special WG for harmonization and consistency (not single std WG) S2ESC Excom Mtg 2010-02-09

  7. Quality and Consistency - 3 • More general strategy for quality and consistency – KEEP GROUPS ALIVE • We are currently locked into a serial single standard development / update cycle, and this seems to result in forming and disbanding a (valuable) WG for a single cycle, for a single standard? • Can we have long lived WGs, handling a related cluster of stds continuously?
