Genre • Genre means type i.e a type of media text with certain characteristics or conventions • Give some examples? • Cross genre or hybrid genre means a mix of genres e.g ‘Wall E’. • What are the genres of Wall E? • Why are they important? • Look at some film posters what genres are suggested?

Representation • The way in which people places or events are re- presented to audiences. • Many representations of people e.g women, teenagers ethnic groups etc are often stereotypical. • Stereotyping is labelling a group or person in a certain way usually unfairly (negative) • Can you think of any teenage positive stereotypes

  13. Conventions of CD covers • Mode of address. Who does the creator think you are? • Go through thumbnails which attract? I tunes and Vista both use Cd Cover image to ‘thumb through’. Reasons? • Cd covers as Art • Important selling tool • Gimmicks

  14. Analysis of CD cover Black background- why? Connotations? Why Direct Mode of address? Font style? Number? ‘To Pack’ a gun means to carry a gun. Audience? Marketing ploy? Symbolic Gesture- Praying? Hand is a gun held up right? Texting language- Font? Mise-en-scene
