  1. Porting Process of number portability • Process of Porting process involves • closure of the account with the donor operator • opening of a new account with the recipient operator. • If subscriber surrenders number then Number Range holder network receives the number back. BSNL ,Karnataka

Porting Process of number portability • Subscriber Sends the request for Porting to 1900 in the format PORT<space>10 digit mobile Number (All operators will route 1900 to their respective Number Portability Gateways(NPG)) • The NPG will Generate a Unique Porting Code (UPC) 8 Character Code with first character indicating Donor Operator and Second Character the LSA eg AX12E531- Airtel Karnataka • The Subscriber approaches Recipient Operator(RNO) fills the CAF which now has the UPC Filed • The RNO through CCN raises the Porting request after allotting a SIM to the Subscriber (SIM Number has to be filled in while raising the request) • The request reaches MCHA(MNP Clearing House Administrator) through NPG (The RNO has the access to GUI of NPG and MCHA for tracking the request) BSNL ,Karnataka

Porting Process of number portability • MCHA sends a request to donor Operator (DNO) for approval of the NP request • DNO approves the Porting (if the subcriber was active in the DNO for at least 90 days, No Pending invoice, and no legal/vigilance cases) , after intimating Law Enforcement Agency (LEA) if the number is under Lawful Interception(LI) . (Must Have a nodal Officer for this) • The MCHA schedules the porting Process and intimates both DNO and RNO of the date and time of porting. The billing system carries out the requests automatically. • After Porting the Change of LRN (Location Routing Number) is broadcasted by the MCHA through NPG to all the L-NPDB. (Local Number Portability Databases) BSNL ,Karnataka

Recipient Operator CCN Subscriber sends SMS on 1900 for getting UPC Subscriber contacts new operator and fills CAF Subscriber receives a new SIM-card Subscriber receives a “Welcome” short message and start using the new subscription. Subsccriber receives a short message about the confirmed date and time of the transfer Subscriber replaces the old SIM card with a new one.
