  2. BACKGROUND • Assistance from agencies – UNIFEM, ECLAC • A Standardized Data Collection Tools developed • All agencies trained to use tool • Division of Gender Relations –Central Registry

  3. Sources of Records • The Royal St Lucia Police Force – Vulnerable Persons Units, Criminal Records Department, Community Relations Branch and the Criminal Investigation Department. • Courts: The Family Court, District Courts, High Court • The Women’s Support Centre • The Department of Human Services and Family Affairs • The St Lucia Crisis Centre • The Upton Gardens Girls Center • The Boys Training Center • Medical Facilities: National Hospitals and Community Wellness Centers.

  4. Limitations of these agencies • Lack of training in the fundamental aspects of data management • Lack of computing and statistical skills • Inadequate hardware and software resources • Lack of computer networking resources • Restrictions in physical spaces: inhibits the confidential conduct of interviews

  5. Challenges • Accuracy of the record keeping systems • Scope of Administrative Records • Varying definitions for indicators • Timeliness in reporting • Scope of Data

  6. Challenges cont. • Access to data/ records at various levels within organizations • Duplication • Legal issues /confidentiality • Inadequate / lack of training • Meeting the requests and commitments from regional and international agencies

  7. Lessons Learnt • There is the need to evaluate or review the existing capacities among the agencies to determine capacity for permanent home for central registry.
