  8. Times and Dates If your child has not attended St Peter’s Nursery, you can benefit from a home visit from Miss Caygill. This gives us an opportunity to get to know our new children and families and answer any of your questions. The children remember this well!

  9. Key People During the visit to school and the home visits, plus the settling in period, we will give each child a Key Person from the class. This simply means that your Key Person pays special attention to you and your child through monitoring their learning journeys, completing observations and having Key Group times.

  10. Key People The idea of the Key Person is to allow you and your child to feel more comfortable and familiar with school, and help us to share our observations of the children to build up a whole picture.

  11. Key People This is to help us to get to know each other well, not to restrict you from talking to staff at school. The class teacher is still responsible for all of the observations, learning journeys and care, and will always be available at a mutually convenient time to talk.

  12. Key People You can talk to any one of us - it does not have to be your Key Person!

  13. Routines and Support School Starts at 8.40 Lunch is at 12.00 School finishes at 3.10 Children are brought to and collected by their adults at the outer Reception door where one of the staff will greet you. They then hang up their coats and bags, and join the fun!

  14. Routines and Support PE kits are kept at school from day 1. They can be taken home to wash, usually 1/2 termly, but MUST come back on day 1 of the new 1/2 term.

  15. Routines and Support Names MUST be in all clothing and shoes, otherwise items are lost very easily.

  16. Routines and Support You will receive letters regarding milk prices and payment dates for the term as soon as possible Your children can try the school dinners. You can then decide whether you wish to have these or packed lunches. They are free.

  17. Routines and Support We will be sending fun, open ended homework when the children are settled in. We will send reading books also, which are changed daily, time allowing. Please support your children with these at home, and sign the records to show that they have been completed!

  18. Routines and Support Phonics (Letters and sounds - please try to say as we say them) Handwriting (formation - please try to only use capitals at the start of a name or a sentence and help your children to form the letters with an appropriate grip).

  19. Routines and Support Maths The children can often count by rote. Please encourage them to understand the value of the number. Encourage discussion of shape, number and measure in everyday situations and games.

  20. Routines and Support The children are happiest when they are independent. Please teach them to fasten their coats, take jumpers or t-shirts off, fasten their shoes etc. When we get changed for PE the children need to be able to take their shirts or t-shirts off themselves. Shoes/dresses/trousers - the less complicated the better!

  21. We are always here to help. Please let us know if you have any questions, or if there is anything we can help with.We work in partnership with you.
