  2. Teach Grant Program Summary Teach Grant is: • Non-Need Based – Must file FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov/) • Up to $4,000.00 per Year for FT Attendance(for 5th year Credential Students) • Lifetime award is $16,000

  3. Student Eligibility Teach 4 Years • Highly Qualified Teacher • Low Income School • Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or • Score in the 75th Percentile on 1 Battery of Nationally Normed test • Teach for 4 years in a High Need Field • Mathematics, Science, Foreign Language, Bilingual Education & English Acquisition,

  4. Student Eligibility • Special Education, or Reading Specialist • Also listed in CA: Agriculture, Business, Music • Teach for 4 full years within 8 years of Program completion (This means beginning within 4 years)

  5. Cancellation of Grant • Student Can Request of schools up to 120 after disbursement. (Grant is returned or converted to Unsubsidized Loan • Discharge of Grant occurs if: • Student becomes totally/permanently disabled & applies for discharge • Recipient Dies

  6. Suspension of Grant • Student can apply for no more than a 3 year suspension when: • A condition covered under the Family Medical Leave Act arises • Call or order to active military duty for more than 30 days • Suspension must be requested prior to conversion to Direct Loan

  7. Conversion To Loan • Teach Grant can convert to Unsubsidized Direct Loan • Conversion is permanent and Irrevocable • Loan Interest is Capitalized from 1st disbursement • Conversions Occurs When: Recipient does not annually confirm intent to go satisfy Teaching Service Agreement

  8. Conversion To Loan • Within 120 days of ceasing enrollment, the recipient fails to notify ED she is employed or intends to pursue qualified FT employment • Recipient fails to maintain qualified employment • Recipient fails to begin qualified employment in time to complete teaching obligation

  9. Conversion To Loan • Within one year of ceasing enrollment if the recipient has not been determined eligible for a suspension, has not re-enrolled in a Teach Grant eligible program, or has not begun teaching service in accordance with the Agreement to Serve
