  3. Secondary Schools • In Italy pupils attend Secondary School from the age of 14 to 19. At the end of the 5 years they have to give their final exam to get their Diploma. It consists of 2 written tests on the main subjects plus an oral ‘discussion’ on a chosen topic and a test – written and oral - on all the subjects of the last school-year.

  4. Pupils have to choose their secondary school at the age of 14, after the 8th grade exam. They can choose among a variety of schools, each with a fixed program for all. All schools have some common subjects: Italian, History, Maths, English and Physical Education After the Diploma they can enter University. Secondary Schools

Today the school hosts: 474 pupils 86 teachers the Head of the school the managing director 27 members of the non-teaching staff (technicians, employees, caretakers…) 30 years ago: Over 1.000 alltogether: 870 attending the Tecnical School of Mineralogy. About 90 attending Grammar School About 100 at the Vocational School for Electricians School Population

  6. All classes have chalk, erasers and blackboards and maps. There are tv sets, video & DVD players, record & CD players. There’s a library, a language lab and 3 computer rooms. All computers have access to the net. There are specialized rooms for Chemistry, Science and Electronics. There’s a small gym (a new one is under construction) and an assembly hall where most extra school activities take place. There’s a swimming pool at a walking distance from school Facilities

  7. Students’ Expectations • We expect that our school gives us the necessary preparation for our future life and career. We would also like to have better facilities: we find our gym too small and shabby and we’d like to have an easier access to the school library. Besides, we think that students should have the chance to be more in contact with the beautiful nature surrounding our school and this could be possible organizing outdoor activities.

  8. For the celebration of the ‘Day of Tuscany’ on 30th November the drama group have realized a piece based on the myth of Europe, written by the young actors and their director. The ‘Day of Tuscany’ refers to the date when – first place in the world - the Granducato of Tuscany abolished Death Penalty and torture in 1786. It unfolds in 6 parts related to the 6 titles of the European Costitution: Freedom Equality Solidarity Citizenship Justice Dignity ‘Europa,

  9. Comenius • The project refers to the changes which have taken place in the last 30 years in our cities. Each participant Istitution will elaborate info materials about his country’s geography, history, traditions and so on. Our objective is to develop feelings and attitudes that favour understanding among different cultures. Multidisciplinary teams of techers will co-operate to achieve the objectives. All project activities are focused on students’ participation. This year the project includes visits in 3 of the partners’ countries: Massa Marittima in Italy, Nancy in France and Brasov in Romania.

  10. Grammar School • It consists of five years of academical studies, mainly humanistic. After the final exam students gain access to all university courses. Doctors, lawyers, historians, economists, teachers, politicians usually come from this type of secondary school, which is very demanding.

  11. A professional school of three or five years duration, preparing the students for a practical profession Our vocational School prepares the young to work as workers in the field of electricity and electronics. The greatest part of the students are boys. Vocational School
