Diversity Scholars is a national, not-for-profit organization that helps underserved high school students succeed with college planning. Our Mission Our mission is to prepare first-generation, low income, and minority high school students for college and match those students with the two- and four-year institutions that offer the best opportunities for college graduation and career success.
High Schools and College Readiness Programs • To connect high school students and staff to two- and four-year colleges/universities across the country (excluding only for-profit and proprietary institutions). • To enable direct communications between college admissions and recruitment offices and high school students. • To establish peer communities so students work with one another, share information, and are recognized for their progress. • To enable professionals to share information and practices through the Diversity Scholars Social Network. www.collegeboundeprofiles.com High schools and college readiness programs usethis Diversity Scholars on-line tool:
The Online Profile The Diversity Scholars online profile is the heart of the system. Students build profiles and include information on their background, interests, extra-curricular activities, and more. Students can easily update their profiles, and post-secondary schools can easily search for students.
Working with Talent Dividend The Talent Dividend Network helps Diversity Scholars: --reach out to all the underserved high school students in Milwaukee --provide a community forum for charting progress in reaching college readiness goals --make the efforts of our students and the development of their scholarly identities visible to our community
College Completion and Success Team – Vicki Turner • 6 Months of engagement with Institutional Research Specialists representing • 16 Colleges and Universities in Southeast Wisconsin • Data Reviewed, Best Practices Shared, Common Barriers Identified Did you know? • 13,288 Students graduated with Associate and Bachelor Degrees from colleges in Southeastern Wisconsin (2010-IPEDS) • 131,745 Students enrolled in colleges in Southeastern Wisconsin in 2009-10 (IPEDS) Goals - Deliverables Research & Events Next Steps Accomplishments
Regional Council Survey Preliminary Results – Karin Gratz • To date, 45 organizations have participated = 75% response rate • Represents at minimum over 10,000 youth being served through the College Preparation and Employment Readiness programs represented within the Milwaukee Talent Dividend • Full report will be distributed in February, 2012 Goals - Deliverables Research & Events Next Steps Accomplishments

Milwaukee Talent Dividend will utilize results by • Facilitate strategic collaborations within the network, • Disseminate information, resources and funding opportunities to appropriate organizations, • Create a database of College Preparation and Employment Readiness Programs in the region (ie. My Life, My Plan Event – Karin Gratz • Collaboration between Milwaukee Talent Dividend, ManpowerGroup, Accenture, YMCA and Boys and Girls Club • Trained approximately 25 Manpower and Accenture employees to become “Career Coaches” in a day-long workshop with youth from the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club • Over 50 youth participated in career exploration and college preparation activities utilizing existing resources and tools such as KnowHow2Go and Wisconsin Career Pathways.
