  2. IDEA and NCLB • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) require: • All students must be included in state and district-wide assessments • All students must be provided access to the general education curriculum • Same standards used for all students

  4. Guidelines for Participation • Required part of student’s IEP • IEP team must • Agree with all 4 statements • Sign (at least 2 IEP team members) • A copy from the current IEP must be included in the child’s portfolio

What is DAPA? • State-wide Alternate Assessment • Part of Delaware State Testing Program (DSTP) • For ~1% of students with most severe disabilities • Approximately 1100 students in DE • Purpose • Ongoing record of student progress • Measure of program accountability • Promote access to the general education curriculum

  6. What is DAPA? • Portfolio • Student work • Teacher data sheets • Parent letter • Assesses General Education Standards • ELA • Math • Science • Social Studies

  8. What Does a Portfolio Include? Activity Each Content Area includes four parts or “dimensions” Interactions Settings Self -Determination

  9. Activity Dimension Participation in Standards-based Activity • Grade Level Expectation (GLE) • Instructional objective (academic) • Curriculum Target • Instructional objective (may be more functional) • Can be part of the IEP or a goal created for purposes of the assessment

  11. Self-Determination Dimension Promotesindependence • Instruction in four areas: • Choice-making • Planning • Monitoring • Feedback

  16. Completing the Portfolio Portfolio submitted to DDOE on 1/29/09 • Portfolio is reviewed and “scored” by trained Delaware educators • Scores are aggregated with ALL student scores to determine AYP for districts and schools
