  4. stay organized while summarizing what has happened in the debate so far • let the judge know what has been happening • follow the flow addressing each argument separately • briefly state the argument that has been made • be specific and concise summarize

  5. refute or uphold the argument you’ve summarized with analytics and by extending the evidence which has been brought up earlier in the debate • EXTEND: means to bring it across the flow to the new realm of debate (in this case: the summary realm) • EXTEND does NOT mean that you only have to say the word. in order to extend the evidence and arguments you MUST summarize again whilst including the author name. extend

  6. boil down: to reduce a problem to its simple essentials. • ensure that the judge knows what the most important issues are in the round. • the ones that you’re winning • the ones with the biggest impacts • the ones that are the most contested • prepare the path for the second speaker to waltz into the world of impact calc in the final focus boil down

  7. don’t try to explain everything in broad and wordy terms • don’t talk about any issue you want in any order you want • BE EXTREMELY ORGANIZED • BE INCREDIBLY CONCISE what not to do
