  3. Daily Journal #2 Start new DJ set on a new page! Make sure you have DJ #, Date, Prompt, and Response. • In what ways do the writings of Captain John Smith, William Bradford, John Winthrop, and OlaudahEquiano reflect their different perspectives and purposes? • Smith wrote vivid accounts of life in the early colonies, which attracted many settlers to move to Virginia. • Bradford & Winthrop wrote more seriously, reflecting on “their role in God’s plan for a better society. • Equiano recounted his capture and brutal treatment, offering readers insight into the life of a slave.

Outline (cont) • Get out your outlines for Unit 1: Early American Writing- An Emerging Nation and open your books to page 23. • Read the remainder of this section to gain background knowledge of the next section we are going to begin studying in Unit 1. • Remember to do this in outline format, as you did before. *Due TODAY!*
