Network 1 • Consists of 50 schools • 47 Elementary Schools • 4 High Schools • Located on the Northwest side of Chicago • Majority of Level 1, High Performing Schools • Demographics largely were predominately white, middle class, 2 income families • Neighborhoods where schools were located were consistently stable over the last 20 years

  4. Scammon School • 1 of 6 schools within network with largely Hispanic population, located by Belmont and Pulaski, adjacent to Hermosa neighborhood • 87% Hispanic • 97% low income • 25% SWDs • 45% ELLs • 900 students in Pre K - 8

Scammon School: Performance • 2008 Level 2 - Not on Probation • Summer of 2008 New Performance Metrics were implemented by CPS affecting many schools • 2009 Level 3 - Probation • Ron Huberman, CEO, implemented Performance Management ‘Deep Dives’, and weekly meetings to showcase leaders of Poor Performing Schools. O’Hare / Network 1 implemented the same process for all of its schools • 6 Schools, including Scammon, received Strategic Planning Consultant, numerous visits from Network personnel – NOT SUPPORT, just numerous visitors and ‘observers’

  6. 2010 Level 3 – Probation 2011 Level 2 – Not on Probation 2012 Level 2 – Not on Probation 2013 Level 1 – Not on Probation 2013 SQRP Policy implemented which was far more demanding for CPS Schools

  8. How did this happen? • January of 2011 • O’Hare Network purchased ACHIEVE 3000 for some schools as part of ARRA grants. Each principal selected their programs from an array offered • RFP for HYBRID BLENDED Learning Environment was selected as APPLE IPAD winner for our 5th grade • Professional Development for both items occurred between March – May 2011 (limited), and throughout the 2012 school year

  9. OUTCOMES Spring of 2012, our 5th graders outscored our 8th graders by a wide margin Fall of 2013, Scammon School became a 2nd-8th Grade fully Blended Learning Environment

How did this happen? • Full implementation of ACHIEVE 3000 with fidelity • Accountability • Progress Monitoring • Principal, AP oversight - consistently • Distribution of school wide scores, classroom scores, teacher’s scores to full staff – consistently • Ongoing Professional Development from ACHIEVE 3000 personnel throughout duration of our contract

SCAMMON ES – Lexile Scores Related to Frequency of ACHIEVE 3000 Use 1Expected growth is calculated based on MetaMetrics’ annual expected Lexile growth and then length of time students used Achieve3000 software. • Scammons students who used Achieve3000 at least twice weekly (80+ sessions total) achieved Spring 2014 Lexile scores of 704 points, a 89-point gain over and above the expected growth for one year.1

SCAMMON ES – Lexile Scores Related to Quality of ACHIEVE 3000 Use • Achieve3000’s Multiple Choice Activity is a formative assessment allowing teachers to monitor student understanding of the text. Scores of 75% or higher typically indicate that students are applying themselves to their work and reading at a level that fosters their literacy development. Achieve3000 recommends that teachers monitor students to ensure performance in this range. • Scammons students averaging 75% or greater on these activities achieved Lexile scores of 970 points, a 129-point gain over and above the expected growth for one year.6

SCAMMON ES – Lexile Scores Related to Overall Fidelity of ACHIEVE 3000 Use • Scammons students who used Achieve3000 with high overall fidelity (completing at least 40 reading sessions and scoring, on average, 75% or greater) achieved Lexile scores of 975 points, a 132-point gain over and above the expected growth for one year.
