  2. Before we begin we must first answer a few questions You have 90 seconds to turn to a partner and discuss the following questions.

  3. What is a habit? What are examples of good habits?What are examples of good learning/studying habits?When responding, please remember to speak in complete sentences using academic language and raise your hand.

  4. Will all that help in college? What do they expect you to know or do when you get to college? How can you prepare?

  5. Start by implementing theHabits of Mind • Metacognition (Intellectual Humility) • Intellectual Perseverance • Intellectual Curiosity

  6. We all know what an intellectual is but what does it mean to have • Intellectual Humility • Intellectual Perseverance • Intellectual Curiosity Ponder on the above for 45 seconds. Turn to a partner and share your thoughts. Be prepared to answer.

  7. Metacognition (Intellectual Humility): • I know what I know, I don’t know it all. • I don’t know why, I just do. • This is how much I do/don’t know. • My up bringing and my experiences shape views. • Why do you believe it? Prove it.

  8. Intellectual Perseverance • “Never give up, never surrender!” • The light bulb wasn’t invented over night. • How many rough drafts does it take to get final copy? • The easiest route isn’t always the best. • If the answer is yes or no, then maybe you weren’t listening to the question.

  9. Intellectual Curiosity • Understanding why and for whom • Think globally and look into it • Take a class for the knowledge not the grade.
