  1. Evolution From RHP to RideSentry State-of-the-ArtSuspension Products

  2. RideSentry – Key Product Advances

  3. RideSentry Program Finalize Timing Slider Bushing - Completed (September 2004) Axle Seats Upper Control Arm - Completed (May 2005) 5000 Series Axle - Completed (June 2005)

  4. Suspension Weight Comparison • Actual weight comparison data – • Air suspensions include anti dock-walk feature, air springs, height control valve and shocks • All suspensions are 16.5” ride height and include standard pin release, standard axles w/77.5” track, 16.5x7Q brake, cams, spindle nuts RHP11 includes lightweight axle, revised upper control arm and Gen-3 slider (current production) MER40 includes standard ½” wall axle, revised upper control arm and Gen-3 slider (current production) RideSentry includes new axle seats/brackets Weight Competitiveness Combined with Durability.

  5. Upper Control Arm: RHP to RideSentry • Old: 4”OD x 0.438” wall 219.7 lbs (2 arms) • New: 5”OD x 0.250” wall 191.6 lbs (2 arms) • WEIGHT SAVINGS 28.1 lbs 4” OD X 0.438” Tube 5” OD X 0.25” Tube

  6. Axle Beam: RHP to RideSentry New: 5”OD X 0.43” Wall Axle Beam Old: 5”OD X 0.47” Wall Axle Beam Current RHP Slider • Old: 5”OD x 0.47” wall 328.0 lbs (2 axles) • New: 5”OD x 0.43” wall 303.4 lbs (2 axles) • WEIGHT SAVINGS 24.6 lbs

  7. Seats & Brackets: RHP to RideSentry

  8. Black bushing Microtect coating on inner metal 2004 1999 2002 2003 1998 2000 2001 1997 Black bushing Zinc Dichromate coating on inner metal Bonded Rubber Bushing With Thrust Washers Bushing Enhancement Chronology Green bushing No rust preventative coating on inner metal • Black Bushing with Microtect Coating on Inner Metal • Bonded Rubber Bushing

  9. Bushing Background • Introduced bonded-rubber bushings 9/04 • Reasons for change • Product improvement to increase bushing life • New bonded rubber solution is a more robust design that eliminates the corrosion issue entirely by changing the operational characteristics • Both laboratory and field test data have shown dramatic improvements in product longevity, particularly in harsh environments • Design concept has been used by ArvinMeritor successfully for over 12 years in Europe New Bonded Rubber Bushing Urethane Bushing

  10. Bushing Background Old Design Urethane Bushing New Design Bonded Rubber Bushing Sliding Friction No Sliding Friction Urethane Bushing Free to rotate Rubber Bonded to Inner Metal Rubber OD Interference/Press fit Inner Metal Fixed/Clamped Inner Metal Fixed/Clamped

  11. Metallic Thrust Washer • Introduced 1/06 • Bushing warranty extended for 2007 model year trailers • 7 Yrs Parts, 5 Yrs Labor

  12. New RideSentry Slider Lateral Plate – Enhanced Racking Resistance High Strength Steel – Increased Durability Protects Pin Mechanism New Angled Pin Design Note: Available 3rd Quarter 2006 New Location of Pin Handle For Easy Access

  13. Advanced Slider Manufacturing • State of the art e-coat line • 8 stage phosphate system for superior cleaning and paint adhesion • Robotic slider welding

  14. Angled Pin - Objectives • Problem Description - Damage to the slider occurs when the slider locking pins are not engaged prior to operation of the vehicle. • Solution – Angled locking pins prevent slider impacts when slider pull handle is released. • If the operator forgets to release the handle the angled pins will not prevent a slider impact. • Handle released in the majority of buckling incidents • Angled pins will not change recommended repositioning procedures.

  15. Angled Pins versus Standard Pins Spring Force Spring Force Standard Pin Angled Pin Body Rail Forward Body rails move forward if brakes are applied with pins misaligned to body rail holes

  16. RideSentry – Top View Angled Pins Patented Angled Pins

  17. Cross Section Angled Pin • Independent Pins - Each pin engages in body rail hole independently when clearance becomes available • If one pin is held up it does not prevent other pins from engaging in the holes of the body rail. • Hole in the back of the slider locking pin allows for independent pin engagement.

  18. Benefits of Angled Pin

  19. Trailer Suspension Model Nomenclature

  20. Suspension Model Nomenclature - Examples Examples: MPA40S65WP1046 Meritor parallelogram air suspension rated for 40,000 pounds, sliding subframe, 16.5 inch ride height, using WP axles, where 1046 is the sequence number, which identifies other specific options and information about the suspension. MPA20F65TL1046 Meritor parallelogram air suspension rated for 20,000 pounds, fixed subframe, 16.5 inch ride height, using TL axles, where 1046 is the sequence number. MTA23F60TN1046 Meritor trailing arm air suspension rated for 23,000 pounds, fixed subframe, 16 inch ride height, using TN axles, where 1046 is the sequence number. MTA46S70TP1046 Meritor trailing arm air suspension rated for 46,000 pounds, sliding subframe, 17 inch ride height, using TP axles, where 1046 is the sequence number.
