Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Act of 1993(DADT) • Created to eliminate discrimination in the military (Andryszewski, 2000). -It did not support or protect. - Made situation worst.
The Repeal of The Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Act of 2011 • Activism led to this repeal. • It gave those previously discharged the opportunity to re-enlist (HRC, 2012). • They can now serve openly.
Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crime Prevention Act of 2009(HCPA • Addresses any hate crime and the prosecution of it (Chapin, 2011) • Expands on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 • Which now includes -sexual orientation -gender identity -disability
