  1. Lydney

  2. LYDNEY Lydney is a small town located in the English county of Gloucestershire, within the Forest of Dean and beside the River Severn. Lydney is a relaxing place with little shops and is set near the countryside. It is home to many people and has been a settlement to many people since the Roman times. 3. Weather During December, January and February we have very cold and miserable weather, often with snowy bursts! In March, April and May we have brighter yet windy and wet weather; often cold temperatures. In June, July and August, we have warm and sunny weather but occasionally with the typical English weather, RAIN! September, October and November is what we believe the most wonderful time of year to live in the forest, Autumn. The leaves begin to fall and the weather is still sunny but gradually gets colder.

  4. Places to go In the Forest Of Dean there are many things to do: • Lydney Harbour • Dean Forest Railway • Lydney Park Estate • Taurus Crafts • Bathurst Park

  5. Shops and schools Lydney covers approximately eight square miles, and stands on the North bank of the UK's longest river, the River Severn. Here, we have many shops. We have a large supermarket called Tesco, a small supermarket called the Co-operative, Greggs the bakery, local newsagent Harry Tuffins and many more individual shops located locally throughout Lydney and the high street. There are 4 schools in Lydney:‘Lydney Church of England Community School’ (Lydney C of E), ‘Severnbanks Primary School’, ‘Primrose Hill C of E Primary School’and the secondary school ‘The Dean Academy’. This is our school, Severnbanks!

  6. Some history • Lydney Canal was once an important harbour for shipping timber, coal and iron from the Forest of Dean. It is now a harbour for pleasure craft. • Lydney Park is the site of a Romano-British Roman Temple and previously was an Iron Age hillfort. • With the industrial revolution, the Forest of Dean was well connected with a system of railways that served the areas industries which included coal, stone, tinplate and timber. Lydney is now the only forest town with some of that infrastructure left.
