Significant Historical Steps • 1989 Act 6 of Second Extraordinary Session established: • Executive Assistant to Governor - Coastal Activities • Coastal Restoration Division within LDNR • Wetland Conservation and Restoration Authority • 2005 Act 8 of First Extraordinary Session established: • Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority • 2008 Act 545 of Regular Session integrated: • The State’s hurricane protection and coastal restoration efforts • 2009 Act 523 of Regular Session established: • Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration

Governor’s Office – Coastal Activities • The Executive Assistant to the Governor for Coastal Activities position was established in 1989 • Mission:to provide leadership and support to the CPRA and todirect and coordinate the development and implementation of policies, plans and programswhich encourage multiple uses of the coastal zone and achieve a proper balance between development and conservation, restoration, creation and nourishment of coastal resources.

Governor’s Advisory Commission MISSION: - Advises the Governor and the Executive Assistant on integrated coastal activitiesrelative to the overall status and direction of the state’s coastal protection program. - Develops advice with respect to the identification and resolution of conflicts among agencies, stakeholders and any other activity which might conflict with the integrated coastal protection efforts.

  8. Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority MANDATE: To develop, implement and enforce a comprehensive coastal protection and restoration master plan in order to provide the state with comprehensive coastal protection.

In the Works • Establishing and Populating CPRA Office • Fiscal Officer, Planner, General Counsel, Administrative Assistant, Communications Officer. • No additional positions or monies are being requested, simply transferred from current departments (4 from Gov. office, 1 from OCPR). • Refining Roles of the Executive Assistant to the Governor – Coastal Activities • Establishing Committees for CPRA • Study on improved coordination of OCPR and Levee District assets and responsibilities

  12. Establishing Committees for CPRA • To more thoroughly achieve the Authority’s mission and to make meetings more efficient the following CPRA Committees are being considered: • Finance Committee • Science and Technical Committee • Legal and Policy Committee • Planning Committee
