The OVGA provides leadership and strategic advice to government about architecture and urban design and promotes an awareness about how good design can make great living places and urban environments. • Administrative office from October 24th, 2011

Office of the Victorian Government Architect (OVGA) The Vaults, Six Degrees Project inception: assistance inscoping the project, selecting procurement route, writing the brief, process of selecting design team Design development: design review through Victorian Design Review Panel (VDRP), Design Quality Teams or OVGA independent review.

Victorian Design Review Panel Melbourne Recital Hall, ARM Bendigo Art Gallery - FKA • Election commitment • 3 year pilot project • Year 1 – Government projects • Year 2/3 – Government + private sector (through LAs) • Aim: To support Government clients in raising the design quality of proposals, achieve best value and ensure that all opportunities are realised for all Victorians in public projects.

Victorian Design Review Panel • 25 design and development professionals – architects, urban designers, landscape architects and planners • 8 technical specialists – sustainability, feasibility, public art, masterplanning, universal design, economic development • Government design specialists • Directed and managed by the OVGA

Victorian Design Review Panel • Maximum 6 panel members per review • Meet one day a month, 2 sessions x 2/3 projects • OVGA work with clients & design teams to prepare for design review + site visit • Project briefings for panel members prior to review • Clients + design teams + other stakeholders present • Chaired by Victorian Government Architect (VGA) and Associate VGA • Formal letter of advice following review from OVGA

Constructive. At the right time.

  8. Victorian Design Review Panel Project Selection 1. Proposals that are significant because of their size or the uses they contain 2. Proposals that are significant because of their site 3. Proposals with an importance greater than their size, use or site would suggest Masterplan, development framework Buildings, public space, streets, parks Design and construct, PPPs, Alliance The earlier the better, return reviews welcome.
