  8. Phase 2 Design Development based on Research November 2nd to November 18th 2010 Develop list of solutions to problem a) Extensive brainstorming b) Materials research b) Narrow solutions to three main ideas Deliverables: List of top 3 ideas with accompanying sketches and supporting reasons

  9. Phase 3 Expert Review November 18th to December 2nd 2010 Take ideas to experts a) Bow maker Jeff Robinson b) Karin Hallberg Deliverables: Final selected design based on review complete with detailed sketches

Current Research Classification of condition Gain better understanding of range of motion and muscle strength Congenital Very rare Especially on just one hand Both hands would be genetic Ectrodactyly type Ectro- absence of Dactyly- arrangement of digits Missing 4 central metacarpals and the 5th proximal phalanx

  14. Current Research Violin Bowing Techniques Current configuration inhibits movement Karen would like to see improvement with certain bow strokes: Depend on balance point Spiccato-bow bounces on strings Certain Techniques require powerful strokes Martele-power/hammer stroke

  15. Conclusion Fiona needs a new bow attachment to replace her current model The real challenge : Although this project may seem easy at first… Difficult to communicate with Fiona because she is shy… The product must be to her express liking…
