  4. School and Childcare Interventions 2009 CDC Workplan & the MT State Asthma Plan Objectives Katie Loveland, MPH, MSW

CDC Workplan: Increase the capacity of MT schools and childcare facilities to manage asthma • Hire asthma educator to coordinate school and childcare activities (December, 2009) • Award 20 mini-grants to school nurses to conduct evidenced based asthma interventions • Train 200 school staff and 100 child care providers on use of school and childcare asthma resource guides.

State Asthma PlanGoal: Increase capacity of MT schools and childcare facilities to manage asthma • Objective 1: Increase capacity of school nurses to provide comprehensive asthma management and education in the school setting • Data project with Helena school nurses • Mini-grants • Advocacy via MASN, MAAG

  7. State Asthma Plan • Objective 2: Increase asthma training opportunities and resources available to school and childcare staff • Asthma videos for schools (MT Team Asthma) • OPI School Health Website • Resource guide trainings (school and childcare facilities)

  8. State Asthma Plan • Objective 3: Support ongoing programs that identify children with asthma and/or provide management services in school and childcare settings, especially program that target at risk groups such as American Indians and low income youth • Comprehensive tobacco free schools work • Support for Fort Peck schools project
