RFID Based Positioning System – Feasibility Analysis • Hardware Feasibility • Testing using turn table shows max vehicle speed can be > 6 m/s. • Spacing required for 10 cm accuracy is 10 cm • Multiple tag information doesn’t improve accuracy unless distance of reader to tag is known (possibility of improvement in future). 10 cm
RFID Based Positioning System – Feasibility Analysis • Financial Feasibility • Vehicle Lab Floor Dimension appx. 7x7 m2 = 4900 cm2 • For 10 cm accuracy, we need inter-tag spacing to be 10 cm • Number of tags need for entire floor is appx. 5000. • Estimated cost per tag in bulk rate = $ 0.5 • Cost of tag/ sq. cm = $ 0.5 • Cost of reader appx. = $80 • Cost of 30 vehicles => $2400 • tagging Veh. Lab = $5000 • With budget = $25,000 and 30 vehicles • Possible to tag 21x21 m2 of floor area with 10cm accuracy
RFID Based Positioning System – Feasibility Analysis • Labour Feasibility • For vehicle lab 7x7 m2 of floor area • 5000 tags • Unique numbering, factory reset? • Sticking them on the floor • individually (time consuming, erroneous) • in bulk, assuming they come in reams with desired spacing, would be less time consuming. • Need to find this out.
RFID Based Positioning System – Feasibility Analysis • Software Feasibility • TI Readers only have .dlls, => windows • Need to call them and inquire about other OS support. • Skyetek supports Linux, Win, PDA for their readers • Need to inquire about Zaurus Linux support. • Develop software that will allow reading of tag info. using RS232 protocol. • Develop API for positioning system using RFIDs.
