  2. Review: Informal Commands Recall from Spanish 1 that in order to form an affirmative informal command (to tell someone you address as tú) to do something you drop the s off the end of tú form of the verb.

  5. Negative Formal Commands Ifyouwanttotellsomeoneyouaddress as ustednotto do something, simplyputthewordno in front of the formal command. Barra el piso. ---------- Sweepthefloor. No barra el piso. ------ Don’tsweepthefloor.

  6. Spelling Change Formal Commands Verbs that end in car, gar, zar, ger and guir have spellingchanges in their formal command forms.

  7. More than one person... To tell two or more people to do or not to do something, add n to the formal command form. Chico, abra la ventana, por favor. Chicos, abran la ventana por favor. Alfredo, no llegue tarde. Alfredo y Maria, no lleguen tarde.

  8. Irregular formal commands • Some verbs have irregular formal command forms.

  9. Formal Commands & Directions Commands are often used when giving directions. Here are some useful verbs for giving someone directions. Ir por la calle – to take...street Vayan por la calle El Conde. Take El Conde street. Doblar a la derecha/izquierda en – to turn right/left on Doble a la derecha en la Avenida Mella. Turn right on Mella Avenue.

  10. Formal Commands & Directions Seguir derecho hasta – to keep going (straight) to Sigan derecho hasta la esquina. Keep going (straight) to the corner. Subir/bajar...hasta llegar a – to go up/down... until you get to Baje la calle hasta llegar al mueso. Go down the street until you get to...

  11. Exit Slip • Form formal commands using the verb in parenthesis. Then translate the command to English. • 1. _________ la puerta, por favor. (abrir) • 2. _________ a la izquierda en la Avenida Morada. (doblar) • 3. _________ seis cuadras. (seguir)
