  2. What is RTI? Response to Intervention • An approach process that is multi-tiered • provide services and interventions to all learners at increasing levels of intensity • make decisions for remediation, and special education, create a well-integrated and seamless system of instruction guided by student outcome data • calls for early identification of academic and behavioral support • Calls for close collaboration among classroom teachers • other educational personnel and parents • Calls for a systemic commitment to uncover and utilize the necessary resources to ensure that students make progress

  15. IV. Tier Model “Ideally” Tier 1 120 min. Tier 2 120 + 30 min. Tier 3 120 + 60 + 30 min. FIDELITY! *For CORE Reading Instruction / Reading Intervention

  16. The Real World, it’s… Tier 1 60 + 60 min. Tier 2 60 + 60 min. Tier 3 60 + 45 + 15 min. But still with FIDELITY!

  17. Tier Instruction Tier 1 = 8o% of student Benchmark Tier 2 = 15% (2 years behind) Strategic Tier 3= 5% lacking basic skills Intensive (phonemic awareness) FIDELITY!

  19. V. Assessments State Boards of Eduction Policy Implementing A.R.S. Section 15-704 • Pursuant to A.R.S. Section 15-704(A), the State Board of Education defines the selection and administration of reading assessments as follows: • Section 15-704, each school shall use the diagnostic information obtained from these assessments in order to plan appropriate and effective intervention

  21. Assessment time frame Tier 1 - Benchmark • Monthly Tier 2 - Strategic • Bi-weekly Tier 3 – Intensive, At-risk • Weekly FIDELITY!

  22. VI. Direct Instruction • Systematic • Explicit • Scaffold • Sequential • Modeled • Multiple Opportunities • Reviewed • Connected FIDELITY!

  24. “I do…” • Stimulate prior knowledge • Review goal, objective, standard • Explain the big picture • Describe the steps or strategy for task • Model the task • Debrief or review what has been modeled

  25. “We do…” • Teacher & student trying out the task together • Teacher and student think aloud • Correct precisely any student mistakes • Debrief what has been done together • Review the purpose for the task

  26. “You do” means that students should… • Review the directions to themselves • Do the activity or task alone or in a small group • Check their work to see that if matches what they what they saw the teacher do and what they practiced with the teacher • Make any corrections that are needed
