San Luis Obispo County Department of Social Services Children in Foster Care CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE AS OF 11/30/2005 Type of Placement Approximately 59% of children in foster care in SLO County are placed with relatives or extended family members. For children who must be separated from their parents, this is the most beneficial placement.

PLACEMENT MOVES FOR CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE 12/1/2004 THROUGH 11/30/2005 This data tracks initial placements and placement moves for children in foster care between 12/1/2004 and 11/30/2005. (Shelter moves are included in the counts.) The City reflects the most recent foster home address.

PLACEMENT OF CHILDREN WITHIN THEIR HOME COMMUNITY FOR CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE AS OF 11/30/2005 Ideal Placement Codes are based on Service Area as opposed to individual cities. All cities in the county are included in one of the six service areas. For instance, children from Grover Beach, Pismo Beach and Oceano are included in the Arroyo Grande Service Area. Note: Ideal Placement Codes are not appropriate in all cases.

ETHNICITY OF CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE COMPARED TO POPULATION AS OF 11/30/2005 By providing staff training on cultural awareness and the culture of poverty, we hope to to minimize disparities based on ethnicity. Due to the very small population of ethnic minority groups in SLO County, our greatest appearance of disparity is in the white population. San Luis Obispo County Department of Social Services Children in Foster Care MEDICAL CONDITIONS OF CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE AS OF 11/30/2005 Children in FC With Medical Condition 85.6% No Noted Medical Condition 14.7% Approximately 85%of children currently in Foster Care entered care with one or more physical or mental heath conditions requiring treatment. The chart above shows some of the more common conditions. This data is based upon records of 341 children in foster care as of 11/30/2005.
