  2. Sphincterotomies • Itis a techniquewidelyacceptedforincreasepupilsizeduringcataractsurgery. Itisnottheonlytechniqueforpupilsizeenlargement. • It consiste in thecreation of multiplecuts at the iris sphinctermuscle. • It has theadvantage of increasepupilsize, do notcreatefolds, and leave a round pupilforthepostoperativeperiod. • ConventionallythistechniqueiswidelyperformedwithVannasscissors.

  3. Micro-Biaxial approach for the performance of Sphincterotomies • Purpose: To demonstrate de safety and efficacy of Micro-Biaxial Techniques in the performance of Sphincterotomies for Cataract Surgery. • Methods: This is a randomized, prospective study where two groups of patients are compared (30 eyes each); one with traditional Sphincterotomies (Vannas scissors) and the other performed in Micro-biaxial approach. Surgical outcomes were measured, in particular access to all meridians of the pupil, lost of deep of the anterior chamber during the process and pupilar performance in the postoperative period.

  4. Micro-Biaxial approach for the performance of Sphincterotomies • Results: The group of eyes with Micro-Biaxial approach for Sphincterotomies showed better access to all meridians and no lost of anterior chamber deep during the performance of the technique in comparison with the conventional (Co-axial) approach. • The difference was significative in these two measures; none in some other surgical outcomes, like postoperative pupilar performance.

  8. Micro-Biaxial approach for the performance of Sphincterotomies • Conclusion: The Micro-Biaxial technique is safe and effective for the performance of Sphincterotomies. Arturo Pérez-Arteaga M.D. Mexico, 2011, for ASCRS Meeting.
