On Monday, it is expected to be announced that Jay-Z will be the curator of and headlining performer at the first Budweiser Made in America music festival at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2. The festival, which will be produced by Live Nation, is to be formally unveiled at a Monday morning news conference with Jay-Z and Mayor Michael A. Nutter of Philadelphia and will assemble an eclectic lineup of “rock, hip-hop, R&B, Latin and dance” musicians. No other acts chosen by Jay-Z were immediately announced, but when you have Kanye West on speed dial and share a home with Beyoncé, presumably opportunities are extensive. Tickets for the festival, which will give an unspecified portion of its proceeds to local non-profits

In Other News Fighting between the national army and rebels in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is threatening mountain gorillas, a critically endangered species, the Virunga National Park said Sunday. Just two of the park's five gorilla patrol posts remain open after the fighting intensified and rebels reportedly moved into the area. Virunga National Park, Africa's oldest national park, is home to roughly 25% of the world's mountain gorillas. Florida A&M University's Board of Trustees meets Monday to discuss the future of the college's popular marching band in the aftermath of the hazing-related death of a member. Band director Julian White, who had been with the prestigious band for 40 years, stepped down under pressure last week. He was placed on paid administrative leave shortly after the hazing death of FAMU Marching 100 drum major Robert Champion in November. ZhannaArshanskaya Dawson's name is etched on the wall of a stark underground memorial in Ukraine, next to that of her sister, Frina, their parents and grandparents. She was presumed dead, like the 16,000 other Jews from Kharkov who perished under the Nazis in the winter of 1941. Only, Dawson survived, as did her sister. They lived through the Holocaust, saved solely by their musical genius. Dawson's son Greg believes his mother and aunt are the only two Jewish survivors from Kharkov.
