  1. Air Sampling from Ships of Opportunity by NOAA ESRL Status Report for JCOMM/SOT-IV 16-21 April 2007 Geneva, Switzerland Ed Dlugokencky National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Earth System Research Laboratory Boulder, Colorado

  2. Rationale -Measure large-scale spatial gradients for CO2 (13C, 18O), CH4 (13C, D), CO, H2, N2O, and SF6. -Use observed gradients with ATM to quantify sources and sinks. -Provides top-down constraint on GHG budgets.

  3. Species Analyzed in Samples from the Cooperative Global Air Sampling Network Species Start Method Repeatability CO2 1967 NDIR 0.07 ppm CH4 1983 GC/FID 1 ppb CO 1988 GC/RGD 0.5 ppb H2 1988 GC/RGD 2 ppb 13C, CO2 1990 IRMS 0.01‰ 18O, CO2 1990 IRMS 0.03‰ N2O 1996 GC/ECD 0.2 ppb SF6 1996 CG/ECD 0.03 ppt 13C, CH4 1998 GC/IRMS 0.06‰ D, CH4 2005 GC/IRMS 1.5‰
