What is Complacency? • A feeling of being satisfied with how things are and not wanting to try to make them better : a complacent feeling or condition • Self-satisfaction especially when accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies • An instance of usually unaware or uninformed self-satisfaction
WHY? • A wide variety of people were asked have you ever done something that you knew in advance was unsafe?
Responses • In a hurry (schedule/time) • Weary of looking for the right tool or equipment (apathy) • Had done it before with out issues (routine/happens to others) • Showing off (pride) • Short cuts were easier
Really applies to Fire Service • Tired • Nervous • Distracted • Stubborn • Miscommunication • Lack of clear instruction • Failure to except what one observes
P.F.D • Developed a long range plan (Written) • Repetition of Training • Recognition of trends • Adaptable
3 Year Training Plan • Long range plan to have vision for future • Room for changes as need arises • Allows for department wide vision • Planned redundancies (Seatbelts) • Plan must include all sections of your organization
