  1. Overharvesting By: Maryam Sukhram & Jennifer Truong Miss.Tran SBI3U0-D Monday, June 11th 2012

  2. What is Overharvesting? • Over harvesting is when individuals take advantage of resources such as excessive fishing of marine life (fish and shellfish)

  3. What caused the Overharvesting? • Now that our technology is more advanced than the past; our society has become more greedy • We are satisfying our needs in the present and not thinking about the consequences of our actions and how they will affect the future generations.

  4. Example • Instead of catching fish the tradition way by a using a single fishing rod, we are catching fish by large amounts in just seconds! • http://www.lincoln.bizland.com/ocean/id162.htm

  5. How the pollution is affecting the local biodiversity • food chain being disruptive • Species are dying because of no food • Species are finding it hard to survive

  6. Which species is affected the most (scientific name and common name) • Overharvesting is damaging the entire ecosystem, even us humans. • Many marine life (fish and shellfish)

  7. Create a food web to demonstrate the eco-system that revolves around this species (label the 10 species)

  8. What could be done • Minimize the amount of fish being harvested • Minimize the amount of time going out to harvest • Certain sizes should be throw back into the ocean
