  2. Spain wanted to establish a colony in Florida to prevent the French and the English from gaining a foothold. • Pedro Mendes de Aviles goals in Florida were to take control of Florida; find and defeat the French. • The Spanish found grassland in New Mexico.

A hacienda in New Mexico was a work place for Native Americans, a self-sufficient community, and a large estate. • The reason for the Pueblo Revolt can be described as the Pueblo were being mistreated by the Spanish. • The result of the Pueblo Revolt was that the Spanish were driven out of New Mexico.

  4. The French settlers learned to make birch-bark canoes from the Native Americans. • The French wanted to explore the Mississippi to find new lands to build trading posts. • One way the French tried to find the Northwest Passage was by exploring the Mississippi.

  5. The location next to the mouth of the river contributed to New Orleans success as a trading center. • When English settlers moved west, the Native Americans resisted the English settlement. • Metacom’s goal in wagging war against the settlers was to force the English out of New England.

The beginning of the French and Indian War can be described as the French and English fighting over the Ohio River Valley. • Because more British soldiers joined the British, they helped the British to win the French and Indian War. • The effect of the French and Indian War on New France was that Britain took over most of New France.
