  2. How do you feel? • Use adjectives to describe our feelings. What is an adjective? • Write the numbers 1-4 in your margin. • For each of the pictures write all of the adjectives you can think of that describe how you would feel if faced with each of these situations. Remember that different things feel different things… E.g. If you hate spiders then having to hold one would be scary and stressful, but if you have a pet spider, then holding one would be enjoyable and positive. 2 1 4 3

Feeling Zones Think about all of the feelings that you have in a day… • You might get annoyed that you have to wake up. • You might feel pleased because you can watch TV whilst you eat breakfast. • You might feel frustrated because you can’t find your school uniform. • You might feel fed up because you’ve got to walk to school. These are all things that you feel before your school day even starts! All of the things that you feel can (generally) be put into 1 of 3 groups – these groups can be called ‘Feeling Zones’. The 3 ‘Feeling Zones’ are… • Comfort zone – when you are happy & relaxed • Challenge zone – when you are challenged to do things but doing these things doesn’t make you feel stressed • Stress zone – when you feel stressed & like everything is too much Think back to the things you did yesterday, can you share examples of when you were in the different zones? E.g. Enjoyed watching TV after school – Comfort zone

The 3 ‘Feeling Zones’ are… • Comfort zone – when you are happy & relaxed • Challenge zone – when you are challenged to do things but you don’t feel stressed • Stress zone – when you feel stressed. Remember as we talked about earlier, different things will be different for different people… E.g. If you hate spiders then spiders would put you in your stress zone, but if you have a pet spider then spiders would put you in your comfort zone. Write the 5 ‘new school situations’ below on a double page in your books as branches on a mind-map. For each situation… • Write 2-3 adjectives to describe your feelings. • Label it with which of the zones it would put you in. • In a different colour, write an explanation to explain why it would put you in that zone. • Finally, in another colour, write how you could help yourself and how others could help you to feel better. Feelings Situations 1. Making new friends 2. Doing PE 3. Working in groups with people you don’t know 4. Being asked to read out or talk in class 5. The first day in September Now…we will check our work against the WILF • How did you get on? • Add to your work in green pen.

At the start of the lesson we said that we would… Thinking about the different feelings we have about moving to a new school. • Use adjectives to describe our feelings. • Detailed mind-mapping. • We have thought about the different ways we might feel about starting a new school – remember everybody will have different feelings, some people might have a mixture of feelings. • There are lots of ways in which you can help yourself and help other people to feel as good as possible about starting a new school… Can you think of any ways? • You will be given a post-it note, use this post-it note to write your promise about one way that you will try to help other people feel better on the first day of school in September. How could you start your promise?
