  1. Powersil-NT-PES (2009-2010)

  2. Powersil-NT-PES Non-Thermo Migrating Softener

  3. What Is Thermomigration? • Thermo migration is the movement of disperse dye from fibre / fabric into the spin-finish or finishing chemical used in processing , during • heat treatment & storage period • Heat setting promotes dye migration from the fiber interior to the fiber surface, leading to lower wash fastness. This phenomenon is known as thermo migration which is the diffusion of dye as a result of the breakage of the interaction between dye and fiber by the increased thermal motion of both the dye molecule and the polymer chain at elevated temperatures.

  4. Market Trend • Polyester and its blends have been widely used for sportswear and leisurewear which need to have high level of wash fastness to endure frequent washing. • Recently there is a worldwide growth in the micro denier polyester because of the soft hand and comfort.

  5. Factors Influencing Thermomigration • As the diameter of the fiber becomes smaller, the total surface area of the fiber increases considerably. A greater amount of dye is needed for the micro denier polyester to reach the same depth of shade as the conventional polyester. These often result in deteriorating wash fastness of the micro denier polyester. Thus thermo migration becomes more severe as the denier of fiber is smaller, and it is regarded as the origin of low wash fastness of the micro denier polyester. • The fiber thickness. • The chemical structure of the disperse dye. • the amount of absorbed dye in the fiber. • heat setting conditions. Thermo-migration in stenter is promoted between 140- 1800C . • Thermo migration is triggered with nonionic ethylene oxide surfactants available in spin-finish chemicals applied on dyed fibers during yarn manufacturing or in silicone softeners in stenter padders.

  6. Why Powersil-NT-PES • Wash fastness of dyed polyester fabric is closely related to the degree of thermo-migration of disperse dye during heat setting. • It is an innovative special silicone emulsion which in contrast to classic formulations does not enhance the thermo-migration of dispersed dyes on polyester fabric. • Due to a sophisticated formulation thermo-migration and bleeding is reduced, wash fastness properties are improved & the colour depth is enhanced. • Suitable for Poly/Viscose, Poly/Wool & polyester fabrics. • Excellent elastic resilience, soft and smooth handle. • It is exhaustible silicone with cationic character

  7. Thermomigration Results: Fabric: Disperse black & 4% Brown-3RD dyed Polyester Fabric Application: By pad(60% wet pick up) , dry (100ºC) & Cure 180ºC for 40 secs) Test method: Cured Fabric tested for dye migration on Whatman Filter Paper No-1. Take a two glass slide one without hole & 2nd with hole in centre of 5mm. Place Whatman Filter paper on centre of slide which is without hole & above it place treated fabric cut in circle form of 5x5 cm & cover it with holed slide & pour 0.5 ml of Perchloroethylene & dry & observe for dye migrated. 2 3 1 4 5 Disperse Black 3 1 2 4 5 Disperse Brown-3RD
