  1. Latest list of GST rates on wooden furniture in 2022

  2. Items with tax exemption or minimal tax • Firewood or wood charcoal is not taxable. • Wood chips, sawdust, and wood waste are taxable at 5% under GST.

  3. Items under 12% GST • Drums, wooden boxes, crates, and wood for making a walking stick, umbrella and tool handles, etc. are taxed at 12%. • Wood, bamboo pulp, particleboards like Glass-fibre Reinforced Gypsum Board, Cement Bonded Particle Board, Bagasse Board, etc. are taxed at 12%. • GST rates of wooden kitchenware or tableware (except ones @28%) are taxed at 12%.

  4. Items under 18% GST • Residual lye from wood pulp manufacturing and residue which has been treated chemically is taxed at 18%. • Wood tar, wood tar oils, wood naphtha, vegetable, and brewers pitch, preparations based on resin acids, wood creosote are taxable at 18%.

  5. Items Under 28% Tax • Plywood, fibre wood, laminated wood, and other materials like wood are taxed at 28%. • Cane furniture, wooden frames, cellular wood panels, shingles, assembled flooring panels, and shakes are taxed similarly. • Wood paving blocks, articles of densified wood, tableware, and kitchenware also fall under the same bracket. • HSN codes are item classification numbers that start from 44 on wooden furniture.
