  1. Welcome toThe world of technical Textiles

  2. 10 am 7.00 am 9.00 am 8.30am 6.30 am It touches our lives every moment 1.30 pm 6.00am 5.00pm 9 pm 8 pm 2.00 pm

  3. Consumption of Technical Textiles • Technical Textiles consumes 22% of total fibre consumption globally. • Consumption of technical textiles more in developed countries • USA : 23% • Europe : 22% • China : 13% • India : 04%

  4. Consumption of Technical Textiles • Technical Textiles consumes 22% of total fibre consumption globally. • Consumption of technical textiles more in developed countries • USA : 23% • Europe : 22% • China : 13% • India : 04%

  5. Technical Textiles in India • Total domestic production worth Rs. 35327 crores (2007-08), likely to grow to Rs. 62438 crores (2012-13) • Total market size including exports worth Rs. 37118 crores, likely to become Rs. 66634 crores by 2012-13 • Total employment - 8.8 lakh persons • Total Exports - Rs. 2759 crores (2007-08) • Total Imports - Rs. 3897 crores (20007-08)

  6. Our Strength • Large pool of educated technical manpower • Huge domestic market • One of the fastest growing economies • Self sufficiency in case of most widely used technical textile fibers • Substantial textile manufacturing network • Comparatively higher growth rate prospects in the sector

  7. Our Weaknesses … • Production is limited and fragmented • Lack of investments by the industry • Poor R & D facilities and lack of innovative and high end technologies • Lack of skilled workforce for the sector • Lack of adequate legislative measures for ensuring level playing field for domestic industry.

  8. Opportunities • One of the fastest growing economies- All sectors • Massive infrastructure development- Buildtech & Geotech • Mega auto manufacturing projects, Nano & others- Autotech • Increased spending in agriculture & irrigation-Agritech • Commonwealth games and its spin off- Sportech • Increased environmental awareness- Oektech • Re-reviving real estate growth - Buildtech

  9. Opportunities • Fast recovering manufacturing sector – Indutech • Increasing consumer spending – Clothtec, Hometech • Increasing exports, storage, dispatch of goods, travelers- Packtech • Opportunities we wish were not there: • Increased risk of communicable diseases (H1N1 Flu virus) & other communicable health hazards - Medtech • Modernization drive of police, paramilitary and defense forces to combat terrorism and naxalism - Protech

  10. Threats • Absence of level playing field vis-à-vis global players in terms of mandatory use of technical textiles in sectors like geotech, medtech, protech etc. • Proven Technology over the world in almost all the applications, but local hesitancy in its acceptance at sizable scales • Global players more interested in ‘selling’ rather than ‘outsourcing from’ or ‘investing and manufacturing’ in India

  11. Initiatives by Ministry of Textiles to promote technical textiles • Concessional rate of 5 percent customs duty on most of the technical textile machinery • Reduction in excise duty on man-made fibre and filament yarns : major raw material for technical textiles. • Coverage of technical textile machinery under TUFS.

  12. Government Initiatives • Under TUFS, 10% capital subsidy on identified technical textile machinery has been provided in line with processing machinery. • Withdrawal of excise duty exemption on sanitary napkins / baby diapers / incontinence diapers. • Anomaly in customs duty has been removed on finished goods vis-à-vis raw material, i.e., Aramid fabrics vis-à-vis aramid yarn.

  13. Centres of Excellence (CE) • In line with U.K. System, Centers of Excellence for four segments have been launched by the Govt.

  14. Projections for Eleventh Five Year Plan • During the Eleventh Plan with regulatory framework, technical textile industry is expected to register a growth of 24.57%. • Without regulatory framework growth rate is likely to be about 11%.

  15. Why Technotex ? • New Initiative by Ministry to realize the untapped potential of the sector • Creating awareness for a better, secure and sustainable life • Ensuring production of enough technical textiles to make this difference • Creating synergy between the Government, Industry and the consumers • Attempting to raise the Indian fibre consumption at par with world trend of 60:40 in favor of manmade fibres
