  1. DECEMBER, 18th, 1973 UN Arabic Language Day is observed annually on December 18. The event was established by the UN  (UNESCO) in 2010 seeking "to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity  as well as to promote equal use of all six of its official working languages throughout the organization . December 18 was chosen as the date for the Arabic language as it is "the day in 1973 when the General Assembly approved Arabic as an official UN language

More than 420 million people speak Arabic Arabic and its different dialects  are spoken by around 422 million speakers (native and non-native) in the Arab world as well as in the Arab diaspora making it one of the five most spoken languages in the world. Currently, 22 countries are member states of the ArabLeague (as well as 5 countries were granted an observer status) which was founded in Cairo in 1945. Arabic is classified as a macrolanguage comprising 30 modern varieties, including its standard form.
