  2. The World and the Lord • John 17.6-23 • Jesus’ Prayer in the Garden • He makes this one very personal • Who is He praying for? • Does that surprise you? • Why does He Pray for this group?

The World and the Lord • What three things do the Disciples know at this point? • That all Jesus had came from God • That they accepted Jesus’ Word • That Jesus is the Son of God. • People often argue Jesus never claimed this. Verse 8 settles that debate • What are the sources of Jesus’ Glory?

  4. The World and the Lord • John 17 • Verse 11. Keep, Protect them by Your Name. What does that mean for us and for witnessing? • Full measure of joy. Pleno is the essential root word here. • Joy– the Greek word is the root from which we get a name– Kyra. • What does Jesus mean in Verse 14– we are not of the world? How can we not be?

  5. The World and the Lord • Verses 21-23 • What does Jesus mean that we are one? • What does He mean that we have Glory? • Glory, δόξα– really interesting. Doxa. What words do we get from Doxa? We have a few. • It also means slendor, light, Majesty. And it means Doxo. • What does glory have to do with doctrine?

  7. The World and the Lord • Question Six- Why are we sent into the World? How can we go into the world and yet not be a part of it? • What are ways we can go into the world and Joy and Glory in it?

  9. The World and the Lord • How do we live in the world, but not be of it? Does your job make this easy or hard? • I am a teacher, often at public schools. How can I be a witness when that isn’t allowed? • What challenges do you face?
