  3. Human egg OVARIES Ovaries contain follicles which turn into eggs. When a girl is born, she already has about 1,000,000 ovarian follicles. During childhood, approximately half of ovarian follicles are absorbed by the body. By the time a girl reaches puberty and her menstrual cycle begins, only about 400,000 ovarian follicles are left to develop into mature eggs.

  4. Tubes that the eggs travel through when they go from the ovary to the uterus. ovary Fallopian Tubes

  5. During ovulation they are the catchers of the egg. They will accept the egg and push it down the tube by using tiny hairs. The egg does not merely slide down to the uterus, but needs the work of the fallopian tubes to reach it.

  6. The main function of the uterus is to nourish and provide a safe place for a fetus before it is born. Uterus

  7. The uterus is able to stretch as the baby grows – like a balloon. The uterus is a muscle and is strong enough to push the baby out.
