Life events - Forces outside of school cause students to drop out Fade Outs - Students do okay in school but stop seeing a reason for staying Push Outs - Students who are or perceived to be detrimental to others in the school Course Failure - Schools failing students See “Education Reform” - Dropout Prevention” on the CDE Website – www.cde.state.co.us

Why Students Drop Out - Colorado • 42% - Absent too many times • 40% - Did not like school • 35% - “Weren’t happy in school” • 34% - Was bored in school • 34% - Had trouble with math • 18% - Got a job • 14% - Needed money to help out at home • 13% - Got pregnant or made someone pregnant Source: NRSpro survey of 16 to 21 years old who took the GED test in Colorado in 2008 and 2009. Number of test takers 15,341. Rates are not mutually exclusive.
