  3. ASME & THON News • Thanks to Nicole, Luke, Christian, Mike, Kathleen, Marla, and Joe for attending the last canning weekend! We were able to raise over $1,200 FOR THE KIDS! • I’ve lost my Family Relations Chair to a co-op… please email sam5192@psu.edu if you are interested in having this position! • THON is 23 days away! GET EXCITED!

  10. Mr. Engineer • Tuesday Feb 9th, 7PM • HUB Alumni Hall • $3 admission charge, proceeds to THON • Any student interested in participating stay after the meeting • If an ASME representative wins half of the THON donation will be given under ASME’s name

  11. Student Professional Development Conference • Hosted by Drexel University • Held during April 23 and 24 • Limited to current and future ASME officers for no cost • Participate in oral presentation, technical poster and web page competitions for prize money

  12. Air Products Presentation • Presentation by Robert Dixon • Senior Vice President & General Manager of Global Merchant Gases • Friday, February 12 • 2:00-3:00 PM in Kunkle Lounge • Light refreshments will be served

  14. Blood Drive • Tuesday February 16 • Kunkle Lounge from 10AM-4PM • Aiming for 75 Donors • $4 to THON for every presenting donor! • All blood types needed, but emergency need for O negative and B negative • Schedule at www.psuredcross.org or talk to me

IPAC Report IPAC is an advisory board for the ME department They give guidance on how to make the department better This year’s topic is global experience for engineering students studying abroad ASME writes a report about the topic and how it can be improved It is very important that you write your thoughts on the surveys

  16. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SPRING BREAK Who: 119 PSU Students When: Spring Break Where: Florida, New Orleans, Georgia When: Spring Break Cost: $285

WHY BE AN OFFICER? • Executive officers are highly recruited by companies and gain valuable contacts • Get to know and have positive recognition by faculty and staff • Grow friendships with people in ME and other majors • Develop networking, organizational and leadership skills • Special opportunities available only to officers

  18. Officer Positions • Officers will give a short description of each position • Stop by after the meeting to find out more about the positions • Officer Elections will take place during the February General Meeting

  19. Coordinates group events • Dodgeball tournaments • Broomball at the ice rink • Social networking in the club • New student recruitment events • Events with similar organizations like AIChE Social Chair Duties

  20. Blood Drive Chair Responsibilities • Coordinate with Penn State Red Cross • Help with setup and teardown of drives • Volunteer and coordinate volunteers in ASME • Help with other ASME events • Talk to Dale for more info!

  21. THON Chair/Family Relations • Plans and organizes canning trips, fundraisers, and THONvelopes • Keeps in very close contact with our families, the Roth Family and the Dairo Family • Constantly spreads the word about THON events, and gets students excited for the upcoming THON!

  22. Professional Chairs • What you do: • Keep in contact with ASME corporate sponsors • Coordinate information sessions • book rooms, order food, publicize • Why do it: • Make connections and network! • Learn about what ME’s do at different companies! • Great leadership opportunity!

  23. Update the ASME website and calendar Web Master - Order and sell shirts! - Be awesome and help out other officers when needed

  25. Design Executive • Creative • Mechanical Intuition – Hands on • Responsible for: • Rube Goldberg Competition Entry • ASME Design Competition Entry • Design Competition(s) – Pinewood Derby • Rewarding: Get to see physical items built as a result of your work! • Average Weekly Hours: 3.5

  26. ASME Secretary • Take meeting minutes for all the general meetings and the officer meetings • Collect attendance from meetings • Send out weekly ASME news

  27. Treasurer -if you spend money for ASME, I will pay you back I order food for meetings I support all the other officers If the President and VP die I am the President

Treasurer - Reimburse officers with ASME’s UPAC funds - Deposit donations from companies Manage food and beverages for all meetings and events Support all the other officers as needed Potentially dance in THON!!!!!!! Attend conferences to educate and expand leadership capabilities *If the President and VP “disappear” I am the President

  29. Vice President • Organize meeting slides to prepare and present general assembly meetings • Represent organization in case of presidential absence • Liaison to professional organizations • Coordinate guest speakers • Represent organization to MNE department

  30. President • Liaison to department • Meets monthly with department head (Dr. Thole) • Oversee all club activities • Organize and lead weekly officer meetings • In charge of conference arrangements • Actively involved with all activities
