Quality Assurance • Support Curriculum for Excellence values, purpose and principles and SQA’s Principles of Quality Assurance, and • provide robust QA – credibility, SQA has a key role as ‘gatekeeper’ • promote a shared understanding of national standards • be inclusive and foster collegiality – ‘partnership’ • builds confidence in assessment decision judgements – approaches need to be developmental • develop a culture of shared ownership through collaborative and partnership approach • take account of constraints – such as budget, funding and release • builds long term capacity and reduce risk

Verification - key aspects • Smaller core of SQA Appointees to oversee and support • SQA and centres working together to: • identify appropriate subject specialist (Nominee) for QA activity • embed CPD into the QA process • ensure trained specialists cascade and support colleagues • complete a rolling programme of QA activity • Intense verification in early years – centres will be verified in all broad subject areas being delivered • Intelligence led approach implemented in later years • Unit Verification will take place at key points – allows for earlier identification of issues • Advice, guidance and support will be provided – verification will be supportive
