Some are rather lax in assembling together with other saints Some teach it’s unnecessary to assemble with other saints to be pleasing in God's sight It is quite evident that the early church did assemble together regularly Acts 11:26; Jas 2:2; Heb 10:25. HOW IMPORTANT IS ASSEMBLING?.

  1. Some are rather lax in assembling together with other saints • Some teach it’s unnecessary to assemble with other saints to be pleasing in God's sight • It is quite evident that the early church did assemble together regularly Acts 11:26; Jas 2:2; Heb 10:25

  2. HOW IMPORTANT IS ASSEMBLING? • Is assembling together actually necessary? • If it is then do we commit sin when we do not assemble when possible?

HOW IMPORTANT IS ASSEMBLING? • HOW IMPORTANT IS WHAT WE DO IN THE ASSEMBLY? • Some acts performed in the assembly are done only on the Lord's Day 1Cor 11:23-29; Acts 20:7; 1Cor 16:1-2; 2Cor 9:7 • Other acts performed in the assembly are done on the Lord's Day as well as at other times Eph 5:19; Col 3:16; Acts 16:25; 1Thess 5:17; Acts 2:42; 16:25; 20:7,31; 24:24-25; Heb 5:12-14 • These acts of worship:observing the Lord's supper; giving as prospered; singing praises to God; praying; preaching/teachingshould be the most important things in our lives • Just how important are they to us?

HOW IMPORTANT IS ASSEMBLING? • HOW IMPORTANT ARE THE BENEFITS FROM ASSEMBLY? • In the presence of Jesus Matt 18:20 • Associated with best people – Christians Acts 11:26 • Partake of the body and blood of Christ 1Cor 11:23-29 • Better prepared to help and bless others 2Tim 2:2 • Receive instructions - we are fed spiritually Acts 20:28; Col 3:16; Heb 3:13 • If we are not receiving any benefits from the assembly, maybe a check-up on how much we are putting into the assembly, is in order

HOW IMPORTANT IS ASSEMBLING? • HOW IMPORTANT ARE COMMANDS OF GOD? • Old Testament examples: Lev 10:1-2; Num 15:32-36 • Baptism is commanded Acts 10:48 - how important is it? • Can't be in the body without it 1Cor 12:13 • Can't be saved without it Mk 16:16; 1Pet 3:21 • Taught by precept to provide for our own 1Tim 5:8 • Nothing hinders us from this duty to God and our families • It seems this is the most important to us • Yes, it is important, but is it more important than any other command of God

  6. HOW IMPORTANT IS ASSEMBLING? • HOW IMPORTANT ARE COMMANDS OF GOD? • Assembling together with the saints is it a command of God or not? Heb 10:25 • DON'T FORSAKE- don't desert or abandonthe gathering together as the habit of some is • BUT EXHORTING - Address - speak to - one another and how much more as you see the day is coming near (apparently the last day) • Obedience to God's commands is absolutely essential Matt 7:21

HOW IMPORTANT IS ASSEMBLING? • Yes, there will be times when it is impossible for one to assemble and I certainly cannot dictate reasons why one cannot assemble Rom 14:4 • We must examine our reasons to see if they "measure up" to the standard Jhn 12:48 • Would these same reasons keep us from fulfilling other commands of God such as: "providing for our own“ • No command of God is more important than others • We must order our lives so that we can fulfill all of our obligations to God Jas 2:10 • Missing the assembly without a valid reason then, is a sin 1Jhn 3:4

  8. AM I ASSEMBLING WITH THE SAINTS AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY AFFORDED TO ME?
