  1. Kindergarten Orientation 2019 Jennifer Cimmino, RN Certified School Nurse

  2. Registration • Immunizations – state mandated • Physical Exam - after July 1, 2018 • Please come and discuss any health concerns you have for your child. Allergies Asthma Heart murmurs

  3. Medication Policy • Health Office Standing Orders • Physician’s Order/ Parent permission • Original container • Nebulizer meds- provide mask/tubing • Children are not allowed to deliver medications to school

  4. Absences • All absences need to be called in to Health Office- leave a message (#2) • Note from medical provider is required when your child has been absent with a contagious illness such as strep throat, conjunctivitis, etc. (See Nurse Guidelines in your packet/district website) • Student should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

  5. Orthopedic Injuries • Crutches, ace bandage, splint, slings etc require a medical provider note. • A medical provider note is required to be excused from Physical Education. • No heels or open toed shoes!

  6. Screenings • Height, Weight • Blood Pressure • Vision every 2 years • (Lion’s Vision Screening- Suresight vision screener) • Hearing • Scoliosis (age 10)

  7. Food Policies • Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value • No classroom food (Birthdays are still special!) • Whitson’s Lunch Service • Allergies can be Life-Threatening • Strategic seating and hand washing • No trading or sharing food • Epipens accessible

  8. Getting Ready! • Are they really ready? • Must be at least 5 years old by October 1st • Fine motor skills/ Social skills • Rigorous academic curriculum • Review hygiene: • Bathroom skills • Hand washing • Sleeping schedule (screen time) • Proper breakfast • Get to know our playground
