Introduction Framework • Quality improvement - Checks on Aggregated Data Time series analysis consists in the comparison of data collected over different time periods If the comparison leads to significant variations !!!!! Alert: possible suspicious data!!!!! Countries are alerted in order to either correct or justify

Some Details • Data used: ROGOTOTA”: Summary annual activity by type of operation and type of transport • Unit considered: tonnes-kilometres and tonnes of national, international and total transport • Measure: Absolute Variation = |(V1-V2)| / V1, VX=value for Year X • Threshold: defined using the 3rd Quartile More technical details available on request

  5. What has been done • First exercise (sent October 2004) • data from 1999-2002 for Old Member States + NO • Second exercise (sent October 2005) • Data from 2001-2004 for all Member States +NO Only countries with variations above the thresholds received the results of the comparisons

Future Developments More comparisons are possible: 1. different time periods: • variation of quarterly data (same quarter) Q1 2004 with Q1 2005 • seasonal variation between the quarters of each given year Q1 2004 with Q2 2004. • 2. different variables breakdown • ─annual transport by type of goods • ─annual transport by type of transport

  7. Questions to WG • Interested in more detailed time comparisons? Which ones? • Timing of the exercise: • Once a year when data complete • Individually for each country when its own data complete
